Sanding a wooden floor

machines and sanding process:

Woody's wooden floor sanding and sealing is a well established floor sander and uses industrial type, Essex Silver Line drum floor sanders. (See picture to the right) The noise level of the Essex Silver Line drum floor sanding machines are bearable and not as loud as the older Crusader clutch type operated machines, however they do the job as well if not better than the older type machines. The machines are precision made to give a good finish to the sanded wooden floors. The machines do collect most of the dust however not all. The abrasives that Woody's wooden floor sanding and sealing fit to the Essex Silver Line floor sander varies in grid size from 20 grid to 100 grid paper. Sanding usually starts using the coarser 20 or 30 grid abrasives and finishing of with the less coarse abrasives eg; 80 or 100 grid. Woody's Wooden Floor Sanding and sealing sand wooden floors according to the need, however on average sanding involves sanding a floor +/- 4 to 6 times. Because of the fact that

the drum sanders cannot reach up to the edge of the floor, the sides are either done by belt

sander or an abrasive fitted backing pad on a grinder.

The main reasons for any type of Parquet to break up:

1. Moist or rising damp

2. Cracks in the substrate

3. Substrate going brittle

4. Excessive water spillage

5. Geyser busts

After care:

Sweep and wash the floors with a damp cloth and buff afterwards with a dry clean and soft cloth if the need be. Buffing can be done using a dry soft cloth wrapped around a soft broom. NB!! Do not apply any wax polish as that would prompt the need to keep on doing that to keep floors in a decent state. Wax polishes also tend to collect dust deposits over time. Woody's wooden floor sanders advise, as the need arises, clean and brighten the floors using a good Laminate or wooden floor cleaner, follow instructions on the product. There is a vast array of floor cleaners available in the market place. Which ever you choose to buy, do a test piece on the floor to see end results.

Cleaning process:

After sanding Woody's wooden floor sanding and sealing takes the utmost care in cleaning and removing dust from the walls and floor. Woody's wooden floor sanding and sealing do this using a vacuum cleaner and a air blower. After cleaning, the floors are inspected for a smooth and proper finish. All the spots that have been missed whilst sanding are sanded by hand. Now we are ready to apply the first liberal coat of varnish to the sanded Wooden floors

The smaller Mosaic block flooring is much harder to repair

properly, especially if it is lose in

large areas. If the extent of the

damage is to great, the viability

of restoring decreases, as it takes

days on end to re glue, and keep

them lined up straight. However

they are repairable in smaller

quantities. Using a W598 Water

Based glue to re stick them.
